Eggshape Lighting Sculpture

The latest research in lighting sculpture has resulted in the creation of an egg-shaped shade that is lightweight, weighing only 6.17 oz or 175 g. This shade has very thin walls and was printed without the use of any support material, taking approximately 28 hours to complete. The material used in its construction is standard white ABS.

 We have developed a lighting fixture shade that doubles as a flower vase, by incorporating a glass vase within the shade. The current design, however, sacrifices its functionality as a lighting fixture. Our next step is to explore ways to combine both lighting and flower vase functionality in one design.
