Light Sources

Fekla lighting sculptures are designed around existing, commercially available light sources.
Rather than developing custom fixtures, the work explores how sculptural forms can adapt to established lighting hardware that is already certified, reliable, and widely supported.

This approach removes the need to engineer new electrical systems and allows the focus to remain on form, material, and internal structure. The research lies in integrating the sculpture with the light source, not replacing it

Tabletop Lamp

Standard tabletop lamp holders are used as light sources for small Fekla sculptures.
These fixtures are readily available and inexpensive, with standard sockets that accept a wide range of bulbs.

Single-bulb illumination is sufficient for compact forms where the distance between the light source and the outer surface is small. Color-adjustable bulbs, including Philips Hue, allow changes in color and intensity without modifying the sculpture or fixture.

This configuration establishes a simple and flexible starting point.

Hanging Lamp

Fekla sculptures can also be adapted to function as pendant lights using off-the-shelf hanging lamp hardware.
Using existing pendant components ensures compliance with electrical and safety standards without additional certification.

In this configuration, light is primarily emitted downward from the socket. This allows the sculpture to grow larger than tabletop forms while remaining effectively illuminated. Testing has been conducted up to approximately 300 × 300 × 300 millimeters, within which a single bulb provides adequate coverage.

This form represents an alternative orientation rather than a change in lighting philosophy

Light Core

As sculptures become taller, a single bulb cannot provide consistent illumination along the full height of the form.
Light intensity decreases with distance, and color effects become localized near the socket.

The Light Core was developed to address this limitation while continuing to use existing lighting systems.
It is a structural holder for LED tape lighting, designed to replace a tabletop lamp holder inside the sculpture.

The LED tape is mechanically supported without adhesive and runs along the vertical axis. This allows light color and intensity to change continuously from top to bottom, enabling taller forms without introducing a custom fixture.
